NOTES

Work some pieces of cardigan using 2 balls (A and B) as they were a single yarn (= double thread)

For body shaping, use the circular needle in back-and-forth rows. For sleeves shaping, work with circular needles in round.

Work the cardigan top down (from top to bottom), increasing for raglans shaping.

SKILL LEVEL: Intermediate

MEASURES

SIZE: 42

POINTS USED

Stocking stitch in round: knit all sts. of every round.
Stocking stitch in back-and-forth rows

1st r. (RS): knit across the entire r.
2nd r. (WS): purl across the entire r.

Always rep. 1st and 2nd r.

Rib 1/1 in back-and-forth rows

1st r.: (k1, p1) across the entire r.
2nd r. and next r.: work the sts. as they appear.

Rib 1/1 in round: (k1, p1) across the entire round and every next round.
Increase to the right: using left needle, lift the yarn between left and right needle, insert the needle under the yarn from front to back, then knit it through back loop.
Increase to the left: using left needle, lift the yarn between left and right needle, insert the needle under the yarn from back to front, then knit it.

INSTRUCTIONS

FIRST PIECE: COLLAR

Use the circular needles with 10 mm points and single thread, and work in back-and-forth rows.

Cast-on 30 sts.

From 1st to 6th r.: rib 1/1.

SECOND PIECE: BODY

Across next r. place the SM for raglan increases.

1st r. (RS): k6 (right front), place 1st SM, k12 (right sleeve), place 2nd SM, k14 (back), place 3rd SM, k12 (left sleeve), place 4th SM, k6 (left front). [6 12 14 12 6 sts. = 50 sts.]

2nd r. (WS): purl, moving the SM onto right needle across the pattern.

3rd r. (RS): work the increases close to SM.

* Knit every st. until 2 sts. before SM, 1 increase to the right, k1, move SM, k1, 1 incr. to the left *, rep from * to * 3 times more, knit until end of r. [58 sts.]

4th r.: rep. 2nd r.

From 5th to 20th r.: rep. 3rd and 4th r. [122 sts. to the end of 19th r.]

NB: For striped pattern with 2 shades, at 7th r., use col.().

As you use 2 different balls and 2 different sequences of colors (for striped pattern) the sequence of colors is repeated. At beginning of new sequence of colors, you must change the ball and use col.() Interchange the balls with 2 different colors sequence across the entire cardigan.

Use 12 mm points and A and B yarns together.

For this part (where you use double thread) we chose to get mixed colors thanks to sequence of colors of ball A and ball B used together. Furthermore, using double thread and 12 mm points, it shapes a sort of puff bulge in this part of the body.

From 21st r. to 28th r.: rep. (3rd and 4th r.) 4 times in all. [at the end of 27th r. = 154 sts.]

Leave the stitches for sleeves.

Across the next r., leave the sleeves and join back and 2 fronts at under-armpits.

1st r. (RS): knit until 2 sts. before SM, 1 incr. to the right, k1, remove SM, leave (on cable or waste yarn) all the sts. of first sleeve beginning from 1st SM you just removed to next SM, move the SM onto right point, knit 1st st. of back panel tightly, 1 increase to the left, knit on sts. of back panel until 2 sts. before next SM, 1 increase to the right, k1, remove the SM and leave the sts. of second sleeve too, beginning from SM you just removed to next SM, move the SM on right point, knit 1st st. of last front panel tightly, 1 incr. to the left, at last knit the rem. sts.

2nd r. (WS): purl, moving the SM on right r., across the pattern.

3rd r. (RS): knit until 2 sts. before the SM, 1 incr. to the right, k1 in next st., move the SM on right point, k1 in next st., 1 incr. to the left *, rep from * to * once more, knit until the end of r.

4th r. (WS): purl, moving the SM on right needle, across the pattern.

From 5th to 10th r.: rep. 3rd and 4th r.

11th r.: knit, removing the SM as you work.

12th r. (WS): purl.

From 13th to 26th r.: rep. 11th and 12th r.

Lower band

From 27th to 32nd r.: rib 1/1

At last, bind off all sts.

Cut the yarn, then hide the ends on WS.

THIRD PIECE: SLEEVES

Use double thread (A and B), circular needles with 12 mm points and 60 cm cable.

Move all sts. you have left for one sleeve on circular needle and work in round.

1st round: pick-up 8 sts. of under-armpits, place one SMb and knit until end of round.

From 2nd to 5th round: knit until SM. Move the SM.

6th round: restart using one yarn col.() and 10 mm points, knit until SM. Move the SM.

From 7th to 54th round: like 2nd round.

From 55th to 60th round: using 6 mm points, rib 1/1 in round.

Bind off all sts. as they appear, then hide the ends.

Work second sleeve like first one.
