GRADIENT LONG VEST
DIFFICULTY = Intermediate
YARN = MOHAIR TREND PRINT by LAINES DU NORD, 400 grams of gradient col. 05 and 100 grams of plain col. 108.
INTERCHANGEABLE CIRCULAR NEEDLES = size 5.5 mm and 6 mm, 80 cm cable.
SHORT POINTS CIRCULAR NEEDLES = size 5.5 mm, 40 cm cable.
OTHERS = stitch marker, row counter, darning needle, scissors, tape measure.
Work the garment in a single piece from down to top until the armholes, then work 3 pieces separately until the shoulders. Work the finishing bands using plain yarn. Work band of two fronts and back in a single piece then, replace the 80 cm cable with a longer one, if needed.
The instructions below refer to sizes S (M-L), so number before the brackets refers to size S, while numbers into the brackets refer to size M and L.

Procedure
FRONT AND BACK UNTIL ARMHOLES
Using plain col. yarn and size 5.5 mm circular needles, cast-on 148 (156-164) sts. and for band shaping, work rib 4/4 as foll.:
1st row: (k4, p4) rep. until 4 sts. from the end of r., k4
2nd row: (p4, k4) rep. until 4 sts. from the end of r., p4
Rep. 1st and 2nd r. 4 times (8 rows).
Using size 6 mm points and gradient yarn, work 130 rows in stocking st., placing 2 SM to mark the sides, then work as foll.:
Size S: k36, 1 SM, k76, 1 SM, k36.
Size M: k38, 1 SM, k80, 1 SM, k38.
Size L: k40, 1 SM, k84, 1 SM, k40.
For neckline shaping, at 131st r. decr. (2 sts. from each edge) as foll.:
131st r.: k2, 1 ssk, knit until 4 sts. from the end, k2tog, k2.
132nd r.: purl.
133rd and 135th r.: knit.
134th and 136th r.: purl.
Rep. from 131st to 136th r. 4 times more (4 repetitions consisting of 6 r. each one) until 160th r. There are 31 (33-35) sts. for right front, 76 (80-84) sts. for back, 31 (33-35) sts. for left front.
Work 3 pieces separately:
161st r.: k2, 1 ssk, k27 (29-31) for right front; using new ball, k76 (80-84) for back; using new ball, k27 (29-31), k2tog, k2 for left front.
Work 3 pieces separately.
TOP BACK
162nd r.: purl.
163rd r.: knit.
164th r.: purl.
Cont. in stocking st., rep. 163rd and 164th r. until 210th r. Leave 22 (24-26) sts. for shoulder, 32 (34-36) sts. for neckline and 22 (24-26) sts. for shoulder.
RIGHT FRONT
162nd, 164th and 166th r.: purl.
163rd and 165th r.: knit.
167th r.: k2, 1 ssk, knit until the end of r.
Rep. from 162nd to 167th r. 7 times more (5 r. in stocking st. and 1 r. with decrease) until 209th r. Purl 1 r. and leave rem. 22 (24-26) sts. for shoulder.
LEFT FRONT
162nd, 164th and 166th r.: purl.
163rd and 165th r.: knit.
167th r.: knit until 4 sts. from the end, k2tog, k2.
Rep. from 162nd to 167th r. 7 times more (5 r. in stocking st. and 1 r. with decrease) until 209th r. Purl 1 r. and leave rem. 22 (24-26) sts. for shoulder.
Join the shoulders, working 3 needles bind off.
SLEEVES' BANDS
Using plain yarn, size 5.5 points and 40 cm cable, pick-up 72 sts. around neckline, place SMb in the center of undersleeve, close in round.
1st round: (k4, p4) until the SMb.
Rep. 1st round 8 times and at last bind off all sts. loosely.
Work the band of second sleeve as given for first one.
RIGHT FRONT BAND, NECKLINE AND LEFT FRONT
Using plain yarn, size 5.5 points and 80 cm cable, pick-up 153 sts. along right band, 36 sts. around back neckline and 153 sts. along left band (=342 sts.), then work rib 4/4:
1st r.: slip 1 k-wise, (k4, p4) until 5 sts. from the end of row, k5.
2nd r.: slip 1 k-wise, (p4, k4) until 5 sts. from the end of row, k5.
From 3rd to 10th r.: rep. 1st and 2nd r. 4 times.
Bind off all sts. loosely.
FINISHING
Hide the ends. Wet and block. Wear!
