FRILL SWEATER

YARN = 300 (350-350) grams of col. 104 MOHAIR TREND by LAINES DU NORD
INTERCHANGEABLE CIRCULAR NEEDLES = size 5 mm, 6 mm and 9 mm points, 80 cm cable.
SHORT POINTS CIRCULAR NEEDLES = size 5 mm and 7 mm points, 40 cm cable.
OTHERS = stitch marker, row counter, darning needle, scissors, tape measure.

SHARE:

Work the garment in a single piece from down to top until the armholes, then work 2 pieces separately until the shoulders, at last join the shoulder using 3 needles technique. The instructions below refer to sizes S (M-L), so number before the brackets refers to size S, while numbers into the brackets refer to size M and L.

Rib 3/2 in round. Stocking stitch in round. Back and forth stocking stitch.

Bind off in graft stitch using darning needle.

Procedure

FRONT AND BACK UNTIL ARMHOLES

Using size 5 mm points circular needles, cast-on 140 (150-160) sts., close in round making sure the stitches are facing the same direction, place one SMb and work band rib 3/2 as foll.:

1st round: (k3, p2) repeat until the end.

From 2nd to 12th round: repeat 1st round.

Using size 7 mm points, cont. in stocking st. in round, decr. 20 sts. (10 on front and 10 on back) across 1st round uniformly.

1st round: knit.

From 2nd to 46th round: rep. 1st round. Work until 50th r. for size M. Work until 54th r. for size L.

Work 2 pieces separately as foll.: first 60 (65-70) sts. for back and next 60 (65-70) sts. for front. Work each piece in stocking st. in forth and back r.

TOP BACK

1st r. (RS): knit.

2nd r. (WS): purl.

Rep. 1st and 2nd row until the end of 30 (32-34) r.

Leave 16 (18-20) sts. for the shoulder, 28 (29-30) sts. for neckline and 16 (18-20) sts. for shoulder.

TOP FRONT

Work as given for top back until row 22 (24-26) then, for neckline shaping, work as foll.:

Row 23 (25-27): k26 (28-30), bind off 8 (9-10) central sts., k26 (28-30).

Cont. working 2 pieces at side of neckline separately.

Right part of neckline

Row 24 (26-28): p26 (28-30).

Row 25 (27-29):bind off 4 sts., knit until end of r.

Row 26 (28-30): p22 (24-26).

Row 27 (29-31):bind off 3 sts., knit until end of r.

Row 28 (30-32): p19 (21-23).

Row 29 (31-33):bind off 2 m., knit until end of r.

Row 30 (32-34): p17 (19-21).

Row 31 (33-35):bind off 1 m., knit until end of r.

Row 32 (34-36): p16 (18-20).

Row 35-37 (only for sizes M-L): knit.

Row 36-38 (only for sizes M-L): purl.

Leave rem. 16 (18-20) sts. for the shoulder (for all sizes).

Left part of neckline: work as given for right one, reversing all shaping.

COLLAR

Using 3 needles technique, join the shoulders.

Using size 5 mm points and 40 cm cable, pick-up 30 sts. along front neckline and 30 (32-34) sts. along back neckline, then work 8 rounds rib 3/2 (as given above).

SLEEVES

Using size 7 mm short points and 40 cm cable (or 80 cm cable for magic loop), pick-up 50 (52-54) sts. around armhole and close in round, placing the SMb in the center of undersleeve.

1st round: purl.

Rep. 1st round until the end of 70 (72-74) round, decr. 1 st. at sides of SMb, every 6 rounds 10 times, beg. from 5th round.

5th round (with decreases): knit until 3 sts. from SMb, 1 ssk, k1, move the SM, k1, k2tog.

Rep. the decr. round across foll. rounds: 5, 11, 17, 23, 29, 35, 41, 47, 53, 59, (65-71).

Using size 5 mm points, for band shaping, work 12 rounds rib 3/2; at last, bind off all sts. loosely.

Work the second sleeve as given for first one

VOLANTS

Using size 9 mm points and 80 cm cable, cast-on 150 sts. and work as foll.:

1st r.: slip 1 k-wise, knit until the end of row.

2nd r.: slip 1 p-wise, purl until the end of row.

From 3rd to 10th r.: rep. 1st and 2nd row.

11th r.: slip 1 k-wise, knit until 1 st. from the end, k1.

Leave all sts. onto waste yarn.

FINISHING

Make a tacking on front of sweater, marking the line of volant. Using the darning needle, sew the volant in graft st., following the tacking, at last remove it (see picture).

Hide the ends. Wet and block. Wear!
