TEDDY SOCKS
DIFFICULTY = Hard
YARN = TEDDY SOCKS by Laines du Nord, 1 ball = 2 identical socks
INTERCHANGEABLE CIRCULAR NEEDLES = sizes 2.75 mm tips with 60 cm and 80 cm cables
OTHERS = darning needle, tape measure, stitch markers
10 x 10 cm = 23 stitches x 36 rows in Stockinette Stitch using 2.5 mm tips.
It is very important to check your gauge and measure the tension correctly to achieve the same results and measurements as the pattern. If the gauge is different, try adjusting the needle size up or down by half a size until you get the correct measurement.
Stockinette stitch in the round: knit all stitches.
Stockinette stitch worked flat: knit on RS rows, purl on WS rows (used for the heel).
Closed Cast On: shape a knot (the knot does not count as a stitch). Place the two needle tips side by side. Wrap the yarn around the right needle from bottom to top, then around the left needle from top to bottom. Repeat until you have 6 stitches on the right needle and 6 stitches on the left needle.
St(s) = Stitch(es)
k = Knit
p = Purl
Foll = Following
SM (BOR) = stitch marker of Beginning of the Round
M-SM = move the stitch marker
RS = Right Side
WS = Wrong Side
Ktbl = Knit stitch through the back loop
Ptbl = Purl stitch through the back loop
Yo = Yarn over
M1 = Make 1 (intercalated increase) – lift the horizontal strand between two stitches with the left needle and knit it through the back loop.
Decr = Decrease
Skp = Slip 1 stitch k-wise knit 1 stitch, pass the slipped stitch over the knit stitch (.
Rep = Repeat from * to *
SIZES
36/37 = 20/22 cm
38/39 = 23/24 cm
40/41 = 25/26 cm
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
These instructions refer to Size 40/41. For smaller sizes see separate instructions.
Length (Foot, from toe to heel) = 25/26 cm
Height (Leg, from heel to calf) = 26 cm
Width (Foot, leg) = 10/11 cm
Procedure
Cast-on 6 sts 6 sts = 12 sts using the closed cast-on technique. Place SM (BOR) on the right needle after the last stitch.
Round 1: Ktbl6 on the left needle, (slip the initial knot), K6.
Round 2: K6, undo the knot, K6.
Round 3: K1, SM, yo, K4, yo, SM, K1 (first 6 sts with incr); K1, SM, yo, K4, SM, yo, K1. You have increased 4 sts = 16 sts total.
Round 4: K1, M-SM, Ktbl the 1st yo, K4, Ktbl the 2nd yo, M-SM, K1, M-SM, Ktbl the 3rd yo, K4, M-SM, Ktbl the 4th yo, K1.
Repeat Rounds 3 and 4 until you have 24 24 sts = 48 sts total for all sizes.
Remove the SM.
Once total stitch count is reached, continue working in the round reaching 23/24 cm (for Size 40/41).
For smaller sizes, knit until the piece measures exactly 2 cm less, like shown in size chart.
HEEL
This procedure is identical for all sizes.
The first part of the heel is worked with increases along the sides of the sole (row 2), while continuing to work in the round across both the instep (row 2) and the sole.
The second part is worked flat using short rows (knit and purl), leaving the instep stitches (row 1) on hold and working only on the sole stitches (row 2).
FIRST PIECE
Divide the stitches equally between the instep and sole: 24 sts on Needle 1 / 24 sts on Needle 2. Place a marker on each side.
- Round 1: * Needle 1: Knit all stitches. Needle 2: K1, M1, Knit to one st to the end, M1, K1.
- Round 2: Knit all stitches.
Repeat Rounds 1 and 2 until there are 40 sts on Needle 2.
SECOND PIECE
Place the 24 instep stitches (Needle 1) on hold. You will now work flat only on the 40 sole stitches (Needle 2).
- K16, SM, K6, K2tog tbl, K1. Turn.
- Sl1 p-wise, Purl until 1 st before SM, purl the stitch before and after the SM
= 1 decr (remove the SM), Purl until the second to last stitch, sl1 p-wise. Turn.
Now work as follows:
RS: Sl1 k-wise, Knit to the last 2 sts, K2tog. Turn.
WS: purl as given for RS.
Continue decreasing 1 stitch across every row, until there are 24 stitches remaining on the needle.
The heel is now complete. Resume working in the round across all stitches (Needle 1 and Needle 2).
LEG AND CALF
Continue working in the round until the leg reaches your desired height.
Bind off with skp technique
KNITTING INSTRUCTIONS
The following step-by-step instructions are written for Size 40/41, which is the largest size and needs the full ball. 40 grams for first sock, 40 grams for second sock. For smaller sizes, follow the size chart. These socks are worked from the toe up in the round using the Magic Loop technique. The cast-on, the first set of toe increases, and the heel are the same for all sizes.
