Procedure

BACK AND FRONT

Using Texture Color A, cast on 34 stitches.

Work 10 rows in stockinette stitch, starting with a purl row.

On the 10th row (Right Side), work as follows:

  • 2 sts with Piuma Fancy yarn
  • 32 sts with Texture A yarn

Work a purl row (Wrong Side) as follows:

  • the first 32 sts with Texture A
  • the last 2 sts with Piuma Fancy

Make sure to twist the two yarns at the color change to avoid holes.

On the next row (RS):

  • 4 sts in stockinette stitch with Piuma Fancy
  • the remaining 30 sts with Texture A

Always twist the yarns when changing colors.

Work a purl row (WS) as follows:

  • 30 sts with Texture A
  • 4 sts with Piuma Fancy

Continue as given above:

Across every RS row, increase the section worked with Piuma Fancy by 2 sts until there are 34 sts worked with Piuma Fancy.

Now, work 10 rows in stockinette stitch using Piuma Fancy.

INTRODUCE TEXTURE B

After working 10 rows in stockinette stitch with Piuma Fancy, introduce Texture B yarn starting from the last 2 sts of the row:

  • Knit 32 sts with Piuma Fancy,
  • Knit 2 sts with Texture B

On wrong side

  • Purl 2 sts with Texture B,
  • Purl 32 sts with Piuma Fancy.

Always twist the yarns to avoid holes.

Continue with the Intarsia colorwork, increasing Texture B by 2 sts at a time and decreasing Piuma Fancy by 2 sts at a time, until there are 34 sts worked with Texture B.

Then, work 10 rows in stockinette stitch with Texture B.

CONTINUING THE PATTERN

After working 10 rows with Texture B:

  1. At the beginning of the row, introduce Piuma Fancy, 2 sts at a time, until there are 34 sts with Piuma Fancy.
  2. Work 10 rows in stockinette stitch with Piuma Fancy.
  3. At end of the row, introduce Texture A, 2 sts at a time, until there are 34 sts with Texture A.
  4. Work 10 rows in stockinette stitch with Texture A.
  5. At the beginning of the row, introduce Piuma Fancy again, 2 sts at a time.
  6. Once you reach 34 sts with Piuma Fancy, work 10 rows in stockinette stitch.
  7. At the end of the row, introduce Texture B, 2 sts at a time, until there are 34 sts with Texture B.
  8. At last work with 10 rows in stockinette stitch with Texture B.

Repeat this sequence until you reach your desired length.

FRINGE

Cut the remaining yarn into strands about 20 cm long.

Group 8 to 10 strands together at a time.

Fold each bundle in half and, using a crochet hook:

  • Insert the hook into the base of the work (first row of the scarf).
  • Pull through a loop.
  • Pull the yarn ends through the loop.
  • Pull tight to secure the fringe.

Once one side is complete, follow the same steps for the opposite end of the scarf.

Trim the fringe evenly with scissors.

Using a darning needle, weave in all yarn tails from the color changes along the scarf.

REMEMBER

  • The yarn used for the intarsia is always introduced on the Right Side of the work.
  • Wrong Side rows are always worked by purling the stitches in their respective colors as they appear.
  • Make sure to always twist the different yarns at the color changes to avoid holes and imperfections.
  • The intarsia stitches always increase and decrease by 2 sts at a time, to create the diagonal pattern.
