dec = work the decreases to shape the handles. Decrease 1 stitch at the beginning of the row as follows: turning chain, skip the first stitch (below the turning chain), then work a single crochet into the second stitch.

Procedure
OVAL BASE
BEGINNING
Chain 30.
Start in the second chain from the hook.
ROUND 1
Work 28 sc in the base chains.
Work 3 sc in the last chain (first curve).
On the opposite side of the base chains: 28 sc.
Work 3 sc in the last chain (second curve).
Move the stitch marker upwards as you continue.
Do not close the round. Continue working into the single crochet below.
ROUND 2
Work 1 sc in each stitch until the curve.
In the 3 stitches of the curve work: 1 inc, 1 sc, 1 inc.
Continue working 1 sc in each stitch along the long side.
In the 3 stitches of the second curve work again: 1 inc, 1 sc (PLACE A STITCH MARKER), 1 inc.
There are 66 sc. Move the stitch marker upwards as you continue.
Continue working the bag body.
BAG BODY
Work 30 rounds in spiral. Stop at the stitch marker (A).
Work two upper sides of the bag separately.
Flatten the bag so that there are 33 stitches on the front and 33 stitches on the back.
The stitch marker (A) should be positioned at the far right edge of the folded flat bag.
Starting from stitch marker (A), place additional stitch markers in the following stitches:
14 (B), 18 (C), 46 (D), 50 (E).
RIGHT HANDLE
Continue working 14 sc (stitch marker B).
• Chain 1 and turn. 1 sc in the second available stitch (one decrease), then continue in sc to stitch marker (E). You have worked 27 sc.
• Chain 1 and turn. 1 sc in the second available stitch (one decrease), then continue to the end of the handle (26 sc).
• Work 11 more rows with one decrease at the beginning of each row, until there are 15 sc.
• Work 30 rows with 1 turning chain and 15 sc.
• Bind off the 15 stitches, leaving a sewing tail.
LEFT HANDLE
• With the right side facing, insert the hook into the stitch marked (C), pull up a loop, chain 1, then from next stitch work 27 sc. You have reached the stitch marker (D).
• Chain 1 and turn. 1 sc in the second stitch (1 decrease), then continue to the end of the handle (26 sc).
• Continue in this manner, making one decrease at the beginning of each row for 11 more rows until you have 15 sc.
• Work 30 rows with 1 turning chain and 15 sc.
• Bind off the 15 stitches, leaving a sewing tail.
VARIATION
You can make the handle longer or shorter by working more or fewer rows after reaching 15 stitches.
FINISHING
Sew the two handles.
Weave in all ends.
KNITTING INSTRUCTIONS
Work in one piece in spiral. First work the oval base, then continue with the bag body. Work the right handle, then the left handle, and at last sew the ends of both handles to shape the shoulder strap.
