KNITTING NEEDLES = size 4 mm
OTHERS = darning needle, safety pin or stitch holder to place stitches on hold, scissors, tape measure.
Work the scarf/hood flat in one single piece, in back-and-forth rows. Start from one end and continue to the other one. Work in garter stitch and finish the edges with an i-cord band. Shape the hood working increases and decreases; at last, join the panel at the back of the neck by sewing the two sides of the hood.
10 x 10 cm = 20 stitches and 34 rows in garter stitch using size 4 mm knitting needles.
It is very important to check your gauge and measure the tension correctly to achieve the same results and measurements as the pattern. If the gauge is different, try adjusting the needle size up or down by half a size until you get the correct measurement.
Garter stitch: knit back-and-forth rows.
ICORD: worked with the sl3 p-wise stitch.

Procedure
First side of the shawl
Cast-on 9 sts. work the first row on RS
Row 1: bring yarn to front, sl3 p-wise (= slip 3 stitches purl-wise), bring yarn to back and knit the remaining 6 stitches.
Rep Row 1, 5 times.
A) Repeat the following instructions 30 times total (one increase every 8 rows)
- Row 7: bring yarn to front, sl3 p-wise, bring yarn to back, 1 incr, knit all stitches to the end of the row.
- Row 8: bring yarn to front, sl3 p-wise, bring yarn to back, knit all sts.
- Repeat Row 9, 7 times.
There are 36 sts on the needle, on RS, with the right side of the work having no increases, and the left side with all the increases.
B) Repeat the following instructions 10 times total: (one increase every 6 rows)
- Row 247: bring yarn to front, sl3 p-wise, bring yarn to back, 1 incr, knit all stitches to the end of the row.
- Row 248: bring yarn to front, sl3 p-wise, bring yarn to back, knit all sts.
- Repeat Row 248, 5 times.
C) Last two rows before shaping the hood:
- Row 307: bring yarn to front, sl3 p-wise, bring yarn to back, 1 incr, knit all stitches to the end of the row (there are 50 stitches on the needle).
- Row 308: bring yarn to front, sl3 p-wise, bring yarn to back, knit all sts except for the last 3 stitches, which must be placed on hold (we will pick them up later; use a safety pin or stitch holder).
Hood Right Side
There are 47 sts on the needle and you are working on the RS with all the increases on the right side of the work. Continue the i-cord of the left band straight and work the increases/decreases on the right side of the work.
D) repeat 20 times:
- Row 309 = bring yarn to front, sl1 p-wise, bring yarn to back, knit all stitches to the end of the row.
- Row 310 = bring yarn to front, sl3 p-wise, bring yarn to back, knit all stitches to the end of the row.
E) Repeat 5 times (one decrease every 4 rows):
- Row 349 = bring yarn to front, sl1 p-wise, bring yarn to back, k1, 1 dec, knit all stitches to the end of the row.
- Row 350 = bring yarn to front, sl3 p-wise, bring yarn to back, knit all stitches to the end of the row.
- Row 351 = bring yarn to front, sl1 p-wise, bring yarn to back, knit all stitches to the end of the row.
- Row 352 = bring yarn to front, sl3 p-wise, bring yarn to back, knit all stitches to the end of the row.
F) Repeat 3 times (one decrease every 2 rows):
- Row 369 = bring yarn to front, sl1 p-wise, bring yarn to back, k1, 1 dec, knit all stitches to the end of the row.
- Row 370 = bring yarn to front, sl3 p-wise, bring yarn to back, knit all stitches to the end of the row.
G) Repeat 5 times (one decrease every row):
- Row 375 = bring yarn to front, sl1 p-wise, bring yarn to back, k1, 1 dec, knit all stitches to the end of the row.
- Row 376 = bring yarn to front, sl3 p-wise, bring yarn to back, knit the following stitches except for the last 3 sts; work the last three sts as follows: 1 dec, k1.
There are 37 sts on the needle. Below you can find the last row of our first half of the work. Place a stitch marker to mark the point where the hood will later be folded.
- Row 385 = bring yarn to front, sl1 p-wise, bring yarn to back, knit all stitches to the end of the row.
Hood Left Side
- Row 386 = bring yarn to front, sl3 p-wise, bring yarn to back, knit all stitches to the end of the row.
H) Repeat 5 times (one increase every row)
- Row 387= bring yarn to front, sl1 p-wise, bring yarn to back, k1, 1 incr, knit all stitches to the end of the row.
- Row 388 = bring yarn to front, sl3 p-wise, bring yarn to back, knit the following stitches except for the last 3 sts; work the last three sts as follows: 1 incr, k2.
I) Repeat 3 times (one increase every 2 rows)
- Row 397 = bring yarn to front, sl1 p-wise, bring yarn to back, knit all stitches to the end of the row.
- Row 398 = bring yarn to front, sl3 p-wise, bring yarn to back, knit the following stitches except for the last 3 sts; work the last three sts as follows: 1 incr, k2.
J) Repeat 5 times (one increase every 4 rows):
- Row 399 = bring yarn to front, sl1 p-wise, bring yarn to back, knit all stitches to the end of the row.
- Row 400 = bring yarn to front, sl3 p-wise, bring yarn to back, knit all stitches to the end of the row.

K) repeat 19 times (total 47 stitches):
- Row 419 = bring yarn to front, sl1 p-wise, bring yarn to back, knit all stitches to the end of the row.
- Row 420 = bring yarn to front, sl3 p-wise, bring yarn to back, knit all stitches to the end of the row.
Last two rows of the left side of the hood and joining with the 3 stitches on hold to continue the i-cord on the decreases/increases side.
- Row 457 = bring yarn to front, sl1 p-wise, bring yarn to back, knit all stitches to the end of the row. ·
- Row 458 = bring yarn to front, sl3 p-wise, bring yarn to back, knit all stitches to the end of the row. Now move the 3 stitches on hold onto the free needle knit wise. Knit these 3 stitches as a continuation of this row.
There are 50 stitches on the needle, on the RS. Continue working the decreases on the right side of the work (facing the RS), while continue the straight i-cord on the left side.
Second side of the shawl
- Row 459 = bring yarn to front, sl3 p-wise, bring yarn to back, k1, 1 dec, knit all stitches to the end of the row.
- Row 460 = bring yarn to front, sl3 p-wise, bring yarn to back, knit all stitches to the end of the row.
L) Repeat the following instructions 10 times total: (one decrease every 6 rows)
- Row 461 = bring yarn to front, sl3 p-wise, bring yarn to back, 1 dec, knit all stitches to the end of the row.
- Row 462 = bring yarn to front, sl3 p-wise, bring yarn to back, knit all sts.
- Repeat Row 462, 5 times.
M) Repeat the following instructions 30 times total (one decrease every 8 rows):
- Row 521 = bring yarn to front, sl3 p-wise, bring yarn to back, 1 dec, knit all stitches to the end of the row.
- Row 522 = bring yarn to front, sl3 p-wise, bring yarn to back, knit all stitches to the end of the row.
- Repeat Row 522, 7 times.
N) Last 6 rows:
- Row761 = bring yarn to front, sl3 p-wise, bring yarn to back, 1 dec, knit all stitches to the end of the row (there are 9 stitches).
- Row 762 = bring yarn to front, sl3 p-wise, bring yarn to back, knit all stitches to the end of the row.
- Repeat Row 762, 5 times.
Bind off the remaining 9 stitches.
Sew the sides of the hood.
Weave in all ends.
Wash and block.
