This is an elastic yarn that suits to different sizes.
POINTS USED
Stocking stitch in round: knit every round.
Stocking stitch in back-and-forth rows
1st r. (RS): k1 in every st. across the entire r.
2nd r. (WS): p1 in every st. across the entire r.
Invisible seam in round:
Slip 1st st. of left needle on right needle. Pass 2nd st. of right needle on 1st st. and drop it. Pull both 2 yarns (yarn of ball and end of cast-on yarn) together decisively; it tightens the dropped stitch shaping one knot. You have made the invisible closing and fixed the ring. At last, move the 1st st. of right point on left needle, place the SM on right point.
Inner increase: knit same stitch twice, first time like usually and then through back loop, at last drop it.
Increase to the right: using left needle, lift the yarn between left and right needle, insert the needle under the yarn from front to back, then knit it through back loop.
Increase to the left: using left needle, lift the yarn between left and right needle, insert the needle under the yarn from back to front, then knit it.
Decrease: k2tog

First earflap
Cast-on 8 sts.
1st r. (WS): slip first 2 sts. (= selvages), p6.
2nd r. (WS): 2 selvages, k6
From 3rd to 26th r.: always rep. 1st and 2nd r.
27th r. (WS): rep. 1st r.
28th r. (RS): slip 1st st. (= selvage), knit 1 inner incr. into next st., k4, knit 1 inner incr. into next st., k1. [10 sts.]
29th r.: 1 selvage, purl rem. sts.
30th r.: 1 selvage, knit rem. sts.
31st r.: 1 selvage, purl rem. sts.
From 32nd to 37th r.: rep. 30th and 31st r.
38th r.: 1 selvage, 1 incr. to the right, k1 in every st. until 1 st. to the end, 1 incr. to the left, k1. [12 sts.]
39th r. (WS): 1 selvage, purl rem. sts. Cut the yarn leaving 20 cm tail.
Move the sts. onto one part of needle or leave them onto different needle.
Second earflap
Work as given for first one. After finishing it do not cut the yarn.
Cap
Using circular needles cont. in round on last round of 2 earflaps.
Start from last r. of second earflap (on needles with its yarn).
40th round (RS): on RS knit all sts. of the earflap on your needle (last r. was on WS), then cast-on 7 sts. on right point, then pick-up second earflap and join it knitting 12 sts. of last r. (this r. has been ended at 39th r. on WS too, so now work on RS).
NB: if you have left the sts. of first earflap on 3rd needle, work them using the right point of circular needle that you are using and where are the sts. of first earflap and 7 sts. you have cast-on. If you have left the second earflap onto waste yarn, slip the sts. onto left point of circular needle on RS, then knit them using point of right needle.
Complete the 4th round casting on 6 sts. Now, on circular needle there are all sts. of the cap; using the invisible seam in round, close in ring shape; the 37th st. closes in ring and then remain 36 (12 7 12 6= 37; 37-1= 36) sts. on circular needle. Place the SMb.
From 41st to 55th round: knit all sts until SM, moving it upwards as you work.
For crown shaping, from next round start the decreases.
56th round: (k7, k2tog) 4 times. [32 sts.]
57th round: (k6, k2tog) 4 times. [28 sts.]
58th round: (k5, k2tog) 4 times. [24 sts.]
59th round: (k4, k2tog) 4 times. [20 sts.]
From 60th to 62nd round: knit all sts. until SM.
FINISHING
Cut yarn leaving 20 cm tail. Using this tail, thread the darning needle and, beginning from left point of circular needle, pass the darning needle through the sts. on needle, then unthread the needle and pull the yarn, tightening central hole of cap. Turn on WS and pass the needle though the hole, knot to fasten the yarn, then hide the ends.
Pompom: using the remaining yarn, shape a big pompom and then, using the darning needle, sew it at the end of one earflap (photo). Shape and sew the second pompom at the end of second earflap.
