INSTRUCTIONS

MITTEN

Worked from the bottom up

Work 32 ch and join in the round with 1 1 sl st in the first ch, ensuring that the work is not twisted.

1° Round: 3 ch (don’t count as 1a dc here and in next round), 1 dc in 1a ch and in every next ch; close with 1 sl st in the 1a dc of the round [32 dc]

2° Round: 3 ch, (1 dc in back loop in each of the next 14 sts., 2 dc closed together) 2 times; 1 sl st in the 1a dc of the round [30 dc]

Set up rounds until piece measures 9 cm:

3°- 8°Rounds: 3 ch (count as 1a dc here and further on), 3 dc, 8 sts in twisted st following chart, 18 dc; 1 sl st in the 3a ch from the beginning. [30 sts.]

Now, start shaping the mitten on one side to create the thumb, always keeping the 8 sts of twisted st.

9° Round: 3 ch and 1 dc in 1a st (1° increase), 1 dc in next 3 sts, 8 sts in twisted st following chart, 1 dc in next 17 sts., 2 dc in last st. (2° increase); 1 sl st in the 3a ch from the beginning. [32 sts]

10° Round: 3 ch, 2 dc in next st (1° increase), 1 dc in next 3 sts, 8 sts in twisted st, 1 dc in next 17 sts., 2 dc in next st (2° increase), 1 dc in next st; 1 sl st in the 3a ch from the beginning. [34 sts]

11° Round: 3 ch, 1 dc in next st, 2 dc in next st (1° increase), 1 dc in next 3 sts, 8 sts in twisted st, 1 dc in next 17 sts, 2 dc in next st (2° increase), 1 dc in the last 2 sts; 1 sl st in the 3a ch from the beginning [36 sts]

12° Round: 3 ch, 1 dc in next 2 sts, 2 dc in next st (1° increase), 1 dc in next 3 sts, 8 sts in twisted st, 1 dc in next 17 sts, 2 dc in next st (2° increase), 1 dc in the last 3 sts; 1 sl st in the 3a ch from the beginning [38 sts]

Make the space for the thumb as follows:

13° Round: 1 sl st in each of the next 4 sts, 3 ch and 1 dc (1° increase) in the 2a st of the 1° increase of previous round, 1 dc in the next 3 sts, 8 sts in twisted st, 1 dc in the next 17 sts, 2 dc in the 1a st of the increase of the previous round (2° increase), 1 ch, skip the next 8 sts (thumb-space) and close with 1 sl st in the 3a ch from the beginning [32 sts, 1 1ch-space]

Now, continue only on the sts. of the upper part of the mitten, temporarily leaving aside the sts. for the thumb.

14° Round: 3 ch, 1 dc in next 4 sts, 8 sts in twisted st, 1 dc in next 19 sts, 1 dc in next ch; 1 sl st in the 3a ch from the beginning [33 sts]

15° - 19° Rounds: 3 ch, 4 dc, 8 sts in twisted st, 20 dc; 1 sl st in the 3a ch from the beginning [33 sts]

At 20 cm from the beginning start decreasing to shape the tip.

23° Round: 1 ch, (2 sc closed together) 6 times; 1 sl st on top of the 1° group of round. Cut the yarn and close, leaving a long tail.[6 sts]

Insert the tapestry needle with the bind-off thread and pass it through the sts. of the last round, pull the thread to tighten the sts. and close the central hole, then hide between the sts. the remaining thread.

Thumb

1° Round: on RS, join the yarn with 1 sl st in the 3a ch from the beginning of 12° round (central st of the 8 dc not worked of the thumb-space), 3 ch, 1 dc in each of the next 2 dc not worked of 12° round, 2 dc in the next dc not worked, (3 groups of 2 dc closed together) in the last ch of the 13° round (back side of the thumb), 1 dc in the last 4 sts not worked of the 12° round; 1 sl st in the 3a ch from the beginning [12 sts]
