Now make the buttonholes.

Work on both loops of the stitches

Next Row: 2 ch, 1 hdc in the first 2 sts, 2 ch, skip 2 sts., 1 hdc in the next 3 sts, 2 ch, skip 2 sts, 1 hdc in the next 3 sts. [8 hdc, 2 buttonholes of 2 ch]

Last Row: 2 ch, 1 hdc in back loop in every st and 2 hdc in every 2ch-space. Cut the yarn and cast off.

Close the cuff, overlapping the last row over the second row, then pin the margins in place with 1 SM.

Continue around the edge of the cuff closed in round,

Mitten

1° Round: join the yarn with 1 sl st in the edge st before the overlapping edge, 1 ch (doesn’t count as 1a st), 2 sc in the same sl st, work evenly 28 sc round the cuff, working through both loops at the overlap point, marked with SM; close with 1 sl st in the 1a sc of the round. [30 sc]

2° Round: 3 ch (count as 1a dc here and further on), 1 dc in the next 7 st, 2 dc closed together in the next 2 st, (1 dc in the next 8 st, 2 dc closed together in the next 2 st) 2 times; close with 1 sl st in the 3a ch from the beginning. [27 dc]

3° and 4° Rounds: 3 ch, 1 dc in every st; 1 sl st in the 3a ch from the beginning [27 dc]

Now, start shaping the mitten on one side to create the thumb:

5° Round: 3 ch and 1 dc in the 1a st (1° increase), 1 dc in the next 25 sts, 2 dc int the last dc (2° increase); 1 sl st in the 3a ch from the beginning. [29 sts]

6° Round: 3 cat, 2 dc in the next st. (1° increase), 1 dc in the next 25 sts, 2 dc in the nor st (2° increase), 1 dc in the last st; 1 sl st in the 3a ch from the beginning.[31 sts]

7° Round: 3 ch, 1 dc in the next st, 2 dc in the next st (1° increase), 1 dc in the next 25 sts, 2 dc in the next st. (2° increase), 1 dc in the last 2 sts; 1 sl st in the 3a ch from the beginning. [33 sts]

Make the space for the thumb as follows:

9° Round: 1 sl st in each of the next 4 sts, 3 ch and 1 dc (1° increase) in the 2a st of the 1° increase of previous round, 1 dc in the next 25 sts, 2 dc in the 1a st of the increase if previous round (2° increase), 1 ch, skip the next 8 sts (thumb-space) and close with 1 sl st in the 3a ch from the beginning.. [29 sts, 1 space of 1 ch]

Now, continue only on the sts. of the upper part of the mitten, temporarily leaving aside the sts. for the thumb.

10° Round: 3 ch, 1 dc in the next 28 sts., 1 dc in the next ch, 1 sl st in the 3a ch from the beginning. [30 sts]
