Using the crochet-hook, work your pumpkin in Brioche Stitch; it very similar to namesake knitting stitch. In this case you shape a horizontal line instead of a vertical line.

It’s a very elastic stitch. You can learn and remember it easily because every row is like the previous one.

Using three threads together, cast-on 20 chain stitches (ch).

Work one double crochet in third ch from hook. Continue across the entire row (in 19 remaining ch below). Two ch, turn.

Now you can see the V shape of each ch. Do not work under this V (like usually) but into the third loop you can see under the V of the stitch: hook the thread under the V. Then insert the crochet-hook in the third loop under the V of the stitch: hook the thread under the V and wrap it over the crochet-hook, yarn over, then pass the crochet-hook through the three loops.

1st row (RS) yarn over, insert the crochet-hook through the stitch below from back to front, pull the hook under the third loop of the half double crochet of previous row, lift the thread under the V of previous ch, yarn over and then pass through the three loops on the crochet-hook.

This is the crochet brioche stitch, that is a variation of half double crochet.

Repeat this stitch across the entire row (19 remaining stitches). Two ch, turn.

As you can see, this crochet brioche stitch shapes a cable consisting of chained V, very similar to knit stitch!

2nd row (WS) yarn over, from front, insert the hook under the third loop, lift the yarn up to below the ch-V, yarn over and then pass the three loops through the crochet-hook. Repeat across the entire row (19 stitches). Two ch, turn.

Repeat 1 and 2 row until you have reached your desired measure. Turn and, on WS, join two short edges of the panel. One ch, insert the hook into both stitches of two edges and work one single crochet. Continue until you have reached your desired length. Turn right side out. Leave approx. 30 cm of yarn, cut. Pass the end of yarn through the eye of darning needle.

Using the darning needle, pass the yarn around the circumference at regular intervals (until the beginning), pull it and tighten the circumference. Knot the yarn, weave and cut the end.

You have closed one edge. For pumpkin shaping, using the padding, stuff the concave part of the pumpkin. Close the second edge, as given for first one. Using 30 cm of yarn and the darning needle, pass around the circumference at regular intervals.

Tighten the yarn and knot it.

You have closed your pumpkin. Using both hands, give shape to pumpkin, flatten two sewn ends and pass the darning needle (you threaded earlier) through the padding, pull it and press between the base and the top; you have shaped your pumpkin. After tightening, knot with a double knot, weave in and cut the end.

Give the finishing touch to your pumpkin, with a small cut branch or alternatively a cinnamon stick.
